Symbian continues to dominate the smartphone OS market with a 71% market share in 2Q07, and its growth reflects the growth in smartphone sales generally, according to Gartner. Following the growing importance of the Chinese market, Symbian opened an R&D center in Beijing. But analysts predict that Mobile Linux will be the fastest-growing smartphone OS over the next five years with a CAGR of about 45% (according to IMS Research). ABI is more aggressive with a CAGR of 75%, and getting a 31% market share by 2012.

Nokia is the No. 1 smartphone manufacturer, followed by Motorola, RIM, Sony Ericsson and Palm.
