A few set of market information released this week:

  • According to In-Stat, the Wi-Fi mesh networking shipments would grow by 90% in 2007 after having doubled in 2006. Strong growth will continue for the next several years, but with growth rates rapidly declining starting in 2009.

  • An AFP report quoted that 15.2m UK households (or 61%) have Internet access, an increase of nearly 7%. 51% of households now have high-speed broadband access.

  • ABI Research found that Linux would be the fastest growing smartphone OS with a CAGR over 75%.

  • Anam Mobile said that mobile carriers are losing out on nearly $5bn in revenue per year through lost opportunities to create value-added SMS messages.

  • Dell'Oro said ALU has passed Juniper Networks for second place in the service provider edge router market with sales up 85%, vs Juniper sales up 23% in 2Q07.

  • A new optical fiber technology developed by Corning engineers promises a 100-fold improvement over standard single-mode fiber. The new fiber is well suited for FTTH deployment.

  • The cellular backhaul market is expected to reach $23bn by 2012, according to ABI Research, from current $14bn.

  • According to Gartner, mobile phone production in India is expected to reach 107m units in 2011 with a CAGR of about 28%.
