A few set of market information released this week:

  • According to IDC the Linux market would grow to $49bn in 2011 (from current $25bn given by the Linux Foundation).

  • According to Juniper Research, mobile data in BRIC countries (Brazil, Russia, India and China) would reach $48bn by 2013, doubling from current situation.

  • ABI research forecasts that touchscreen market for mobile phones and other handheld devices will reach $5bn in 2009. Samsung and Motorola dominate the market with respectively 33% and 30%, ahead of Sony Ericsson with 24%.

  • According to Juniper Research, mobile broadcast TV services revenues would only reach $2.7bn by 2013, despite 330m mobile TV users worldwide. Less than 14% will opt for mobile pay TV services.

  • According to point Topic, there were 17m (+95%) worldwide IPTV subscribers on June, 30.

  • ABI Research predicts 103m femtocell-based access points by 2013.

  • Goldmedia says that 3G penetration rates will reach 60% in Germany by 2012.

  • Portio Research estimates that mobile operator revenues would top $1bn in 2011, growing at a CAGR of 6.4%.

  • According to Dittberner, FTTH shipments grew 22% in 2Q08 to 2.7m ports, and are on target to reach 11.6m ports in the year. Mitsubishi and Sumitomo dominates the market with respectively 19% and 12%, followed by Tellabs with 11% and ALU and NSN with 6% each .

  • According to Informa, India would have over 500m subscribers by 2010. That means doubling current figure in two years after taking 13 years to get the first 250m,

  • Infonetics reports that the dual mode cellular/WiFi phones market reached almost $8bn in 2Q08. Nokia is the market leader followed by Samsung.

  • According to Arcep, there were 56.4m (+6,3%) mobile subscribers in France at the end of September, or a penetration rate of 88.7%. 40% of net adds went to MVNOs. MVNOs market share, however, remains low with only 4.9% or 2.6m users.

  • ABI Research said that multi-mode WiMAX chips, supporting both WiMAX and LTE, would be introduced in 2009.

  • According to TMG, 154m mobile subscribers around the world have used mobile number portability,

  • GfK found that 100m Americans viewed mobile ads in 3Q08.
