Telenor announced that its Broadband Global Area Network Service (BGAN) is commercially available to customers in Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Africa. BGAN is provided by Inmarsat.

BT is to buy Fiat' wholly owned telecom unit Atlanet in Italy for about €155m.

EarthLink (US) is paying $144m to acquire US VPN service provider New Edge Networks.
