India's GSM-based cellular subscriber base is close to the 51m mark. India added 1.95m subscribers in September. Bharti retained its leading position with a market share of 27.7%, followed by BSNL at 23.4% and Hutch at 19.1%.

MVNO “M6 by Orange” (France) has attracted 100,000 subscribers in just four months, three months in advance of the target dead line.

Japan: KDDI added 165k new subscribers in September, to a total base of 20.7m users; DoCoMo added about 125k new subscribers, to a total of 49.9m users (of which 16.8m are 3G) and Vodafone KK added just 3.3k new users to a total of 15m (of which 1.7m are 3G).

3 Group (Hutchison Whampoa) with mobile operations in the UK, Italy, Hong Kong, Australia, Austria, Ireland, Denmark, Sweden and Israel, says its 3G subscribers surpassed 10m worldwide.

Russian mobile phone subscriber number rises to 112m in September, and penetration rose to 77%. Operator breakdown is: MTS: 38.9m; Vimpelcom: 38.4m; MegaFon: 20.9m; Uralsvyazinform: 3.2m; Smarts: 2.6m; Tele2: 2.2m ; Sibirtelecom: 1.6m

UMC (Ukraine) has 11m mobile subscribers.

Spain: DSL users amount at 3.5m, up 60%.
