FTTH IPTV gets a new dimension
Optical Entertainment Network (OEN), a US start-up, plans to deploy FTTH services to over 1,600,000 households in Houston, Texas. We are far from current limited municipal deployments, and nearer from plans of big two US telcos Verizon and SBC. OEN plans to provide integrated IPTV services for providing video, 10/100-Mbit/sec Internet, voice, video-on-demand (VOD), and other broadband applications including home security, videoconferencing, and telemedicine. OEN is using GEPON platforms from Alloptic, middleware from Minerva Networks, NetCentrex softswitches, Amino Technologies set-top boxes, and last-mile cabling kit from Nexans. OEN plans to launch its U.S. service offering by the end of the year, with European operations set to start in 2Q06.
