Intel invests a lot in promoting WiMAX. Asia is the targeted region to start, and trial WiMAX networks are planned in Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam. Intel is also engaged in trialing WiMAX in Spain with Iberbanda, covering the access of some 20,000 subscribers. Iberbanda seems satisfied with the results and plans to extend the network to about 25% of Spain. While WiMAX is yet to be fully standardized, a number of service providers in both developed and emerging markets have begun to deploy networks.
