1Q07 handset sales Gartner
Gartner unveiled its mobile phone market view with 1Q07 sales. The market grew 14% to 257.4m units shipped in the quarter, driven by strong demand in China, India, Japan and more generally in APAC. Nokia remains the indisputable leader with almost 92m units shipped and 36% worldwide market share. Motorola shipped almost 48m units, and lost market share to 18.5% (-3 points) due to excess in inventory stocks. For Gartner, Motorola will continue to struggle in 2Q07, but will meet more promising time in 2H07. Samsung is third with 32 m units sold and a market share of 12.5%, unchanged.
The table below highlights that Nokia won not only the pole position, but also the best increase in sales, followed by Sony Ericsson that gradually builds its way as a solid fourth player, and gaining ground on its rivals.
