Telecom Italia saga

Publié le par Jean Arnal

The saga continues... with AT&T announcing it abandons the race, but its partner America Movil seems wanting to continue, in spite of Brazil' s telecom regulator Anatel warning AMX could face local barriers if it acquires a stake in TI, the owner of TIM Brazil. Furthermore, new bidders are emerging: known (such as Berlusconi' s Mediaset for a minority stake; or bank Intesa Sanpaolo, ..) or not (names circulate such as DT, FT, Telefonica, ..). In the mean time, TI' s CEO Guido Rossi resigned and a new CEO was elected: Pasquale Pistorio coming from the SGS Group. Pistorio has been on TI board for three years, and knows well the company. But the debate continues in Italy, if TI assets can be transfer in foreign hands. EU, always ready when competition is questioned, has warned the Italian government against blocking a deal with a foreign investor.
