U-turn: not only mobile ?

Ericsson CEO Carl-Henric Svanberg explained during the earning conference call that Ericsson does not want to be exclusively in the mobile market. With less optimistic view on the mobile market (lower growth in 2007+, lower margins), Ericsson turns to the fixed broadband access network, where big money is going. Its main interest is the IPTV market and the infrastructure that can handle video traffic. The first stage of the rocket is named Entrisphere, a small company that Ericsson is partnering with for bidding GPON business (ATT, Verizon, ..); the seconf stage is Redback, recently bought for its IP infrastructure portfolio, complementing its own internal EDA solution; the third stage of the rocket is developing its own GPON solution (based on Marconi research). Ericsson had seemed very confident to become a bigger name in the acces market, despite stiff existing competition.
