Sprint Nextel needs spectrum

Sprint Nextel plans additional spectrum acquisitions in the 2.5 GHz band to give it a nationwide footprint. Sprint Nextel was required by the FCC as a condition of the merger between Sprint and Nextel, to begin offering services in the 2.5GHz band to at least 15m Americans by 2009 and to 30m by 2011, or risk losing rights to the spectrum. If Sprint Nextel is confident to beat the deadline, it did not decide yet the technology. Several trial networks using concurrent technologies in the 2.5 GHz band are on going. The decision could be made during this summer.
