Global mobile phone market

According to Strategy Analytics, the mobile phone market can exceed previous record this year. First, the market increased 31% in 1Q06, and it is the first time 1Q shipments exceed 200m (229m according to Strategy Analytics). So the new trend is to reach 1bn units shipped during the year, or an increase of 22%. In 1Q06, Nokia was the leader with about 33% market share (Nokia claims 35%), ahead of Motorola which passed the 20% bar, achieving 61% growth in the quarter. Samsung lost ground with a below-average 18% growth, while LG performed better with above-average growth of 41%. Sony Ericsson shipped 13m units in the quarter, or a 5.6% market share.
