Bluetooth taking off, but ....

Bluetooth technology has really started taking off. With shipments up more than 200% in 2005 and expected to reach 40m units a month sometime in 2006, Bluetooth is an established technology. But future could be chaotic. With the desire to increase data rates from 1 to 3 Mbit/s to faster than 100 Mbit/s, Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) plans to turn to ultra wideband technology (UWB) with a new spec to be finalized in 2007. The threat comes with two UWB potential and incompatible standards in line (WiMedia Alliance and UWB Forum). Both sides also have members in the Bluetooth SIG. Can Bluetooth select one or both of UWB standard?
