Wireless Internet usage:  an interesting survey, made by Ipsos-Insight, in 12 countries, on wireless internet usage. The wireless internet user population continues to grow (+29% in 2004), but mainly in Japan and the US (accounting for 69% of the worldwide increase).  Surprisingly, the main engine to access wirelessly Internet is not WiFi or laptop usage, but simply a mobile phone (59% of adult wireless internet access). Vendors have very early identified the demand for wireless data applications and included related features: wireless emailing is used by 33% of mobile phone households, wireless internet browser is used by 25%, instant messaging by 20%, video gaming by 20%, and image/ video exchange by 25%.

According to Ipsos, 2005 will be a springboard year for the wireless Internet via a mobile phone. The introduction of 3G and the continued adoption of the Internet could lead to a greater number of people connecting to the Internet through a mobile phone (and in many cases in developing countries the only available mean to access internet).
