Risk in airplanes?

When I was young, it was forbidden using electronic devices in planes, and the ban was gradually only lifted some years ago. Children are now playing game devices, earing walkman, while adults are using laptops, DVDs, and cellphones. In the past two years, lot of noise has been made around phoning in planes, with most airlines companies rushing to offer the service on board. A recent study Carnegie Mellon University researchers has found that using electronic devices in planes could endanger flights, and specially usage during some critical flight stages such as taking off, or final approach and landing. Such devices can interfere with key cockpit instruments, such as GPS receivers, which are increasingly vital for safe landings. The researchers recommend now to go back, to coordinate electronic devices emission standards, and to monitor on board radio emissions and eventually track passenger using of electronic devices during final approach, for the safety of all passengers.
