Big numbers reveal the health of this market. First is Apple announcement of 1bn iTunes song downloads for the past three years. Second is the number of legal downloads in 2005 at 420m, up 169%, given by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry. Third is the revenues generated by mobile music at $1,1bn or 6% of the industry revenues. 128m MP3 devices were sold in 2005, up 40%.

Apple is the market leader.
