Qualcomm is developing chipsets based on Digital Video Broadcasting–Handheld, or DVB-H, a rival standard of its own MediaFlo network, for which it is also supplying MediaFlo chips to handset vendors. It is quite in line with its traditional strategy to support all viable technology and not to loose market opportunities (i.e CDMA and WCDMA in mobile).

Microsoft joins DVB-H alliance as founding member. It also supported Modeo' s Crown Castle DVB-H mobile TV trial.

Sony Ericsson launched the W300, a quad band EDGE clamshell and the K800 and K790 camera phones.

TTPCom and Kineto Wireless signed an agreement to develop handsets combining UMA and cellular standards including GSM, GPRS and EDGE, as well as WiFi and WiMAX.

Samsung is building a mobile phone production and R&D base in Tianjin, North China.
