Mobile TV and video services
Mobile TV and video services could overwhelm 3G networks in the next two years, according to Sound Partners. According to their model, 40% of of 3G users taking up mobile TV and video services and consuming as low as 8 minutes of video per day, could overload 3G capacity. So they conclude broadcasting (and not streaming) technology will be essential to support the full range of mobile TV and video usage scenarios, and specially the MBMS (Multimedia Broadcast and Multicast Standard) feature, developed within the 3GPP/3GPP2 Release 6 standards.
