ð                   Juniper Research believes the global mobile entertainment revenues should grow to $60bn by 2009, with gambling and games accounting for about $19bn each. The market could be $ 17.6bn in 2005.

 

ð                   More than 3.4m PDA devices were shipped in 1Q05, according to Gartner. RIM (21%), PalmOne (18%) and HP (17.6%) are the leaders.

 

ð                   In-Stat announced mass migration to VoIP will take years, with 2005-2009 to be likely the VoIP ramp-up period, and migration to VoIP peaking in the 2010-2014 time frame. But this planning is largely dependent on carriers' strategies for migration to the Next-Generation Network (NGN).

 

ð                   CableLabs has selected a packet-bonding proposal advanced by Motorola, ARRIS and Broadcom over a competing "MPEG bonding" proposal championed by Cisco and BroadLogic, for DOCSIS 3 specifications. With “channel bonding”, cable operators could deliver data at much higher speeds to customers over standard DOCSIS cable-modem and maintain some advance in speed race with ADSL and FTTx.

 

ð                   According to BMI-TechKnowledge, Africa had about 68m mobile subscribers and 32m fixed lines at the end of 2004. It assesses that by 2010 mobile users could reach 140m.
