Philippines: fixed lines in the country amounted to 6.5m lines installed, but only 3.45m in operation (up 4.5%). PLDT holds about 3m lines and Globe Telecoms 1.5m lines. The growth in fixed line usage marks a turnaround and is due to an aggressive strategy from National Telecommunication Commission (NTC) and operators. But officials do not expect growth over the medium term because of the sustained popularity of mobile communications.
CDMA: The CDMA Development Group (CDG) announced it is evaluating various enhancement IP-based techniques for next-generation CDMA2000 technologies. They are targeting at delivering performance, speed up to 45Mbit/s by using multiple carriers, and flexibility.
