US mobile handset market

According to the NPD Group, handset sales in 1Q06 grew 11% to $2.3bn and 35m units, with Motorola benefiting the most of the change. APS was about $66 in the quarter. Motorola led the US market with 29%, followed by Nokia and Samsung, both with 18%. LG is fourth with 15%. Four vendors control 80% of the market. Motorola ruled the GSM market with 39%, ahead of Nokia with 24% and Samsung with 16%. LG led the CDMA market with about 31%, followed by Samsung with 20% and Motorola with 13%.
