UTStarcom has helped Japan’s largest broadband provider, Softbank BB, building its new IPTV offering. UTStarcom is providing all all pieces of the IPTV distribution chain from the headend encoders to the video servers to the set-top boxes, as well as the mVision middleware that glues the whole works together.
It also received an $67m order from China Netcom for the expansion of its existing IP-based PAS networks in the Heilongjiang, Liaoning, and Shandong provinces; Inner Mongolia; and metropolitan Beijing.

Lucent wins an upgrade deal for the expansion of the optical network of Qingdao Netcom, a subsidiary of China Netcom. It has also been awarded PAS network expansion contracts by Gansu Telecom and Shandong Netcom, provincial subsidiaries of China Telecom and China Netcom respectively. It will also supply its IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) Solution to support Voice over IP (VoIP) services Shandong Netcom.

Alcatel Shanghai Bell will deploy an intelligent optical metro network with Beijing Netcom, a China Netcom subsidiary.

Microsoft reached an agreement with France Telecom to jointly develop several products and services, such as a digital convergence service platform and VoIP terminals.

Siemens/ Juniper will deliver Telenor its next generation IP MPLS network.
