Motorola and Samsung have signed a cross-licensing contract in the mobile telephony.

Compal (Taiwan) has received orders from Motorola to manufacture  3G handsets on an OEM basis.

Motorola is launching JUIX, a new mobile Java and Linux-based operating system. The first JUIX-based mobile phone will be the E895, to be launched in 4Q05.

Alcatel is to open a first mobile base station manufacturing plant in India. This production line is being implemented at the ITI factory in Mankapur.

Siemens is targeting the deployment of equipment for 3G mobile services in India and is talking with Indian mobile service providers.

UTStarcom has applied for a mobile phone license (through its Hangzhou-based subsidiary). UTSracom intends not to make just low-end products, but move up the value chain by launching mid- and high-end products.
