Mobile Number Portability
It is always fashionable (but also merely effective) keeping its phone number when churning, but it is not really successful in the market. While introduced several years ago, with trumpets and big noise, less than 10% of mobile numbers have been ported today. With this feature, regulators were hoping increasing competition and choice. But many significant barriers still exist, such as high charges, long delays, lack of promotion and low motivation by operators. And I know many of friends having tremendous problems (and limitations) for porting their phone number. As a result, few people know that MNP is available, and those who know prefer changing their phone number when changing their mobile network rather than entering in a long and complex process to force their initial operator to free their number. In some countries, the MNP process is fully managed by the new operator, it simplifies the user' s life, but not necessarily shorten delays and costs.
