Alcatel-Lucent: rumors of additional job cuts. In addition to 9,000 layoffs announced, 6,000 to 11,000 other jobs could be fired, almost double of previous announcement. Unions could call for a strike.

Sony Ericsson will hire 100 engineers in the US.

Alcatel-Lucent is selling its Belgian manufacturing activities to tbp Electronics (NL).

Nortel' s CFO Peter Currie will step down, effective April 30.

Vodacom (South Africa) reorganises management with Peter Matlare, as chief strategy and business development officer; Romeo Kumalo as commercial director responsible for sales, marketing and new products; Dietlof Mare as managing director of Vodacom Tanzania; Mervyn Visagie as managing director of Vodacom Congo; Godfrey Mbingo as managing director of Vodacom Lesotho.
