Siemens announced a $50m contract to build a GSM network for Banglalink (an Orascom subsidiary in Bangladesh). It also won two new contracts to build GSM-R mobile rail communication networks in India, and will provide Sabafon (Yemen) with an additional 300k GSM lines under a $19m contract.

Nokia won a €100m contract from Kuwait's Wataniya to upgrade its mobile network beyond 3G (HSDPA) and EDGE.

Motorola secured an 80m one-year frame agreement with Mobile TeleSystems (MTS) in Russia. It will supply GSM/GPRS infrastructure.

Ericsson has been selected by Mobitel (Sri Lanka) as the sole vendor of core and radio access network equipment for GSM/GPRS/EDGE network. It will also provide turnkey network design, deployment and integration services.

Lucent and Novatel are to supply 3G Connect data card to Maxis (Malaysia).

Finmeccanica (Italy) said it is in talks with Russia on TETRA projects.

Huawei has provided its first 3G CDMA 2000 network in LATAM to Cooperative Telefonica de Calafate (CoTeCal) in Argentina.

ZTE won the expansion of CDMA 2000 1x Skytel (Mongolia) network for national coverage. It will also deploy a CDMA 450 WLL network in Ulan Bator for the Information and Communications Authority of Mongolia.
