Mobile contracts - 09/03/08

Nortel and Motorola have received an unexpected order from BSNL (India) for 5m mobile lines, equally split between the two vendors.

Ericsson has been selected by E-Plus (Germany) to expand and upgrade its 3G network. Vodafone Australia has selected it as the primary hardware and software vendor to support its HSPA deployment in 2008.

Motorola scored a $335m order from Zain (S. Arabia) to deploy and manage a 3G network.

Option NV has been chosen by ASUS (Taiwan) to provide its GTM 378 embedded module as PC connectivity.

Nokia has launched exclusive handsets with Vodafone and T-Mobile. It will also upgrade E-Plus (Germany) 3G radio network. It has signed a “strategic partnership agreement” with China’s largest distributor, China Postel, for up to $2bn in mobile handsets this year.

Huawei won China Unicom' s CDMA network expansion and upgrade, and a $20m GSM contract with BPL (India).
