A few set of market information released this week:

  • iSupply predicts that cell phone handset display shipments would reach 1.2bn units (+17%) in 2006.

  • FTTH Council and TIA said that more than 6m households are passed in North America, and 1m are subscribers (+50% in past 6 months).

  • According to Infonetics, worldwide EPON, GPON, and BPON equipment sales are expected to surge to $3bn in 2009, up 432% from $565m in 2005. The number of worldwide PON subscribers is expected to continue to grow as well, from 4.1m in 2005 to 38m in 2009, 85% would be PON-based and 15% Ethernet-based. Mitsubishi and Tellabs are leaders.

  • According to Strategy Analytics, mobile payments could grow to $36bn by 2011, with most of the revenues coming from Asia. NA market is set to grow rapidly.

  • J.D. Power found that in the US, mobile spending rose to $66 a month from $55 in 2 years, thanks to text messaging and downloads.

  • Strategy Analytics forecasts that NA wireless enterprise data services would generate over $10bn a year, serving more than 41m users. It also forecasts that enterprise mobile email will eclipse SMS as the prime revenue generator as early as 2009.

  • CCG predicts that N.A. cable operators will have 28m residential phone customers by 2009, up from 10.7m at the end of this year. Growth will come at the expense of traditional telcos . Telcos will lose 8.4m phone lines this year.
