The DSLAM market was worth $3.1-$3.3bn in 2004 according to In-Stat, and is expected to remain flat over the next few years. The market will be highly competitive, with shrinking average selling price (ASPs) over the next several years. Alcatel is the market leader in all regions, except the Asia-Pacific region, where Huawei, the second-leading worldwide market share, booked strong sales thanks to booming market in China. IP DSLAMs will replace current leading ATM-based DSLAMs in the future.
In 1Q05, the market absorbed 12.5m ports, of which 31% from Alcatel, 22% from Huawei, 9% from Lucent, and 7% from Siemens, according to Dittberner. Huawei reinforces its position while Alcatel lost about 10% in market share this quarter.
