Telefonica posted a net 1Q05 profit of 912m, up 36%, on revenues of 8.3bn, up 17%. Mobile and ADSL businesses drove the growth. OIBDA rose 16% to 3.4 bn, while OIBDA margin remained almost flat at 41%. 1Q05 capex grew 29% to 744m. Telefonica has 140m subscribers. Revenues in Spain grew 6% and revenues in the Moviles unit (mobile) grew 35% (including the acquisition of Bellsouth assets). The cellular business accounted for 44% of total revenues, Spain (fixed unit) for 34%, Latinoamerica group for 21%. Spain (total) accounted for 57% of total revenues and LATAM for 40%.
PCCW (Hong Kong) announced huge losses (around $15bn) under US accounting rules, due to $16.6bn provisions for impairment of goodwill and intangible assets. Under HK rules, the company reports a $1.6bn profit (vs loss of $6.1bn)
SHIN (Thailand) reported $62m in1Q05 net earnings, up 14%. AIS, its mobile arm, contributed 90% to its earnings, while Shin Satellite recorded $5.2m earnings (almostflat) and iTV PCL, its broadcast arm, reported $4.2m earnings, up 570%.
AIS (Thailand) posted profit of $134m, up 7%, on revenues of $597m, down 1.5%. Service revenues grew 2% to $533m.
PanAmSat reports 1Q05 revenues of $209m, up 2%, and net earnings of $$1m (vs.loss of $32m). EBITDA was $163m, up 6%.
SMARTS (Russia) posts 2004 revenues of $315m,up 100%.
Telekom Austria announced 1Q05 revenues increased 1.4% to 1bn. Revenues are made of 533m in wireline (down 0.4%), and of 527m in wireless (up 2.5%). EBITDA rose 5% to 436m. Capex increased 68% to 119m.
China Unicom reported 1Q05 sales of $2.5bn (up 7%) and earnings of $128m (down 26%). GSM earnings were $ 257m (up 34% qoq), but CDMA earnings declined 47% to $34m.
