Carrier packet transport equipment sales

Ovum unveiled its study on 2Q06 service provider packet transport equipment sales. The market grew to $2.2bn, up 11%. It is made of: IP/MPLS core for $468m (+2%); IP/MPLS edge for $1bn (+33%); ATM/MPLS for $437m (-7%) and IP/Ethernet for $370m (-2%). The application breakdown gives: IP transport and services for $765m (+3%); Ethernet transport and services for $736m (+38%); Legacy transport and services for $534m (-1%) and Subscriber services / BRAS for $239m (+2%).

Cisco and Juniper continue to dominate the IP transport and services market with respectively 57% and 25% market share; Cisco and Alcatel led the Ethernet transport and services market with respectively 63% and 20%. Legacy transport and services (Frame Relay, ATM, and TDM circuit emulation) are led by Alcatel-Lucent and Nortel with 38% and 21% respective market share.The subscriber services segment is led by Cisco with 44% market share, followed by Juniper with 30% and Redback with 26% .

Cisco and Juniper led the IP/MPLS core segment with respectively 60% and 35%. The IP/MPLS edge is led by Cisco (50%), Alcatel (17%), and Juniper (16%). Cisco (53%), Juniper (22%), and Alcatel (12%) led the IP/MPLS platform revenue segment.
