Wi-Fi in flight soon

Following recent 800 MHz spectrum auction by FCC for ATG (air-to-ground ) licensee-provided communications services to passengers on commercial , AirCell ACBidCo and JetBlue Airways' Live TV respectively won 3MHz and 1MHz spectrum for respectively $31m and $7m. Commercial broadband Wi-Fi service should be available in the next 18 months in the US. It will replace current Verizon AirFone current seat-back ATG telephone service on airlines. The FCC and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) continue to restrict use of personal electronic devices on aircraft, such as cellular handsets, pagers, PDAs, portable music players, video games, and computers, but FCC is currently re-examining that ban.
