Intense lobbying before EU telecom Ministers meeting
30 European major telco CEOs are pushing for lighter regulatory touch on last-mile access networks and in particular for new FTTH networks. The move tries to influence the EU Commission to relax their view before it publishes new proposals, by the end of this month, for governing the European telecom market. Most European incumbents are convinced that light regulation is needed to encourage investment in new technologies (FTTx). Remember recent comments from DT or FT, arguing for new infrastructure-based competition instead of price-cap network opening to competitors.
