Microsoft will tie up with Japanese firms (Toshiba, DoCoMo, JVC,....) on music and video distribution in Japan in developing a portable music and video player to compete with Apple' s iPod.

Ericsson offers a cash offer to buy Netwise, a developer of software for team collaboration, and integration of mobile phones, VOIP and multimedia.

Nokia will buy LCC International to boost its network services in the US. LCC, however, has international operations.

IBM has unveiled new middleware and hardware systems for telecoms carriers to help them deploying triple play services over both fixed and mobile networks. WebSphere IMS Connector, WebSphere Application Server, WebSphere Presence Server, WebSphere Telecom Web Services Server, and System x3650T are the heart of the new offer.
