Broadband over power line (BPL)

Publié le par Jean Arnal

Broadband over power line (BPL): The European Commission wants to use electric power supply lines to offer low-cost high-speed Internet access following a recommendation it issued this week. The goal is of course to create an alternative broadband supply route, more competition and drop down broadband access prices. The situation is quite different in the US where the United Power Line Council (UPLC) continues to oppose rules that would put BPL operators and vendors at a competitive disadvantage.

Oxance (France) is releasing its PLT300 (with a throughput of 85Mbit/s) and a span of up to 600m.

Telkonet and GigaBeam will together attack the multiple-dwelling-unit market, with GigaBeam supplying backhaul to a building via wireless broadband and Telkonet providing BPL distribution within the building.
