A few set of market information released this week:

  • MSN Messenger has a global market share of 61%, but ranges from 90% in Latam to 33% in NA.

  • According to In-Stat, business location-based services could reach 1m subscribers by 2010.

  • There are 82 m Instant Messaging users in Europe, according to Comscore Networks.

  • ABI Research releases a new report saying that prospects for W-CDMA and cdma2000 1x base stations are improving.

  • Analysys said that about 79m mobile handsets were sold in China last year, of which 72m GSM (+14%) and 7m CDMA (down 30%).

  • India is expected to have 21m 3G users by 2010,

  • TIA assessed the World telecom revenues to be $1.8tr in 2005, up 11.4%.

  • According to Infonetics Research, the NA telecom carrier capex was $63bn in 2005 (+8%) and could increase to $65bn in 2006 ( +3%). RBOCs will increase their capex in 2006 by about 18%, mostly on IP/MPLS routers, optical equipment, voice equipment, broadband aggregation equipment, and mobile RAN.

  • Analysys predicts that 78m Chinese people would be using 3G services by 2008, from 440k at the end of 2006. In another assessment, the 3G number of users in China could be 200m in 2010.
