According to an IAB study, online advertising in Europe reached €11bn in 2007, versus €9bn in the USA.

IMS Research predicts that there would be 62bn mobile banking transactions in 2012, made by 900m users of contactless mobile payments.

According to Strategy Analytics, value-added mobile services (such as navigation, e-mail or video/music) would be the main growth stream in mobile services.

The iPhone celebrates its first anniversary. Even if sales are yet modest (about 0.5% of global mobile handset sales), it generated very quickly much interest from the mobile industry. iPhone already ranks second to RIM in the US in the smartphone market with a 19% market share in 1Q08. This market share is down 8 points in the quarter, but 4Q07 sales were overvalued due to Xmas sales.

Gartner has made a u-turn on the question of embedded 3G in laptops. Based on new pricing and technologies, Gartner says now that moderate and extensive travelers would benefit from using 3G, rather than WiFi or hotel broadband access.

Mobile phone market overview by Forward Concepts: average growth in 2008 would be 10% as NA and WE markets are slowing to 7.8% and 3.8% respectively and even Japan would decrease. Growth would continue in volume in China and India, but Africa and Middle East would report far higher growth rates.

EJL Wireless Research reports that the global base station market grew by 58.5% in units in 2007 with over 1m units shipped in the year.

Gartner releases figures on the smartphone market: global sales were up 29% to 32.2m units in 1Q08, accounting for about 11% of the global mobile handset market. Nokia keeps a 45% market share, followed by RIM with 13.5% and Apple with 5.5%.
