3GPP works on Femtocell
3GPP has finally adopted an official architecture for the Home NodeB (HNB) femtocell-to-core network connectivity and started work on a new standard. The decision follows last week approval of a joint proposal made by ALU, Kineto, Motorola and NEC, for a new interface called Iu-h, between the Home Node B and the Home Node B Gateway. What is a (good) surprise is the schedule of the work to be completed by the end of the year, far sooner than might have been expected. The availability of such a standard is likely to develop the femtocell market and help vendors make inter-operable devices.
