European mobile phone market

IDC forecast European mobile phone market to grow 12% this year (vs. 19% last year to 144m units shipped), driven by UMTS and converged devices. 3G UMTS handsets should grow to 13% of total shipments this year (from 6% in 2004 and 1% in 2003). Nokia held a 35% market share in 2004, followed by Siemens with 16% and Motorola with 12% market share. Sony Ericsson and Samsung have respectively 11% and 10% market share.
