India: CDMA subscriber base grew to 14m by 2004 year-end. There are 6 CDMA networks in India, but all are ‘limited mobility” or fixed  (Wireless local loop) networks. So, it is unfair to include them in mobile subscribers base.

 

Belgium: mobile operator BASE has increased its subscriber base to 1.64m, up 31%. Belgium has about 9.65m mobile users. Proximus (Belgacom) holds about 4.8m mobile subscribers, and Mobistar (FT) holds about 3.2m users.

 

3G UMTS: at the end of 2004 there were 16m UMTS users. It is anticipated that UMTS subscriber base would have surpassed 203 at the end of February. 

 

China: the Ministry of Information & Industry expects the number of Internet users to grow by 28 % in 2005 to reach 120 m, from 94m in 2004.

 

TAC (Thailand) said its subscriber base rose to 7.85m mobile subs. at end-January.

 

Chile: with 50%+ mobile penetration, the number of mobile subscribers rose to 8.5m in 2004. There are 3 mobile operators: Entel PCS, Telefonica Movil and Smartcom (Endesa group). The two first use GSM networks, while Smartcom used a CDMA network.

 

Ukrainian Kyivstar said it has 7.3m mobile subs. as of March 1.

 

Eurotel Bratislava (Slovakia) has 1.9m mobile subscribers. Mobile penetration is close from 80%.

 

Broadband subscriber number has passed 150 m worldwide, according to IMS Research.
