MTN expansion strategy in MEA
The South African GSM operator has developed its portfolio of acquisitions in emerging markets, such as Iran (Irancell got the second GSM license in Iran), Zambia (Telecel) and Botswana (Mascom Wireless). It also bought Libertis Telecom (Rep. Congo) and Loteny Telecom (Cote d'Ivoire), and is interested by a license in Egypt and in Tunisia (through a stake in Telecom Tunisie). The MTN group has about 21m subscribers in about 11 countries, mainly in South Africa and Nigeria.
