  • France' s DTT (digital terrestrial TV) reached 1m households passed, or about 10% penetration in covered areas.

  • According to IDC, the server market grew 8% in 3Q05, with $12,5bn sales driven by low-cost equipment segment. Windows-based servers gained the top position (34% with $4,6bn sales), while Unix-based server sales decreased 0,5% to a market share of 32%. Linux-based systems grew 34%. IBM increased its leadership to 32% market share, followed by HP with 28%, Dell with 10,5% and Sun with 9%.

  • Nokia increased its handset sales forecast to 780m units next year, thanks to a flamboyant Chinese market. Nokia sold 23m units in 2005 in China (+77%) or $3,3bn for a 32% market share.

  • According to Dittberner, NGN sales (media gateways, softswitches and VOIP) were up 70% in port shipment to 27,3 ports and 49% in revenues. VOIP revenues were $609m and VoP were $671m. Huawei is the new leader with 12,4m ports shipped (or 45%) in 3Q05, followed by Siemens with 16% and Nortel with 11%.

  • KISDI (Korea Information Strategy Development Institute) expects S. Korea to have between 8m and 11m WiBro subscribers by 2011 and sales of up to $3.2bn six years after service launch.

  • The worldwide mobile gambling market should take off in 2006, according to Visiongrain. It would generate revenues totaling $4.3bn by 2008.
