TD-SCDMA 'ready for commercial deployment'
TD-SCDMA 'ready for commercial deployment' : As announced in previous Telcoflash issues, Chinese officials have said that after latest field trials, the major obstacles to building out 3G networks based on the home-grown standard TD-SCDMA have been overcome. It is definitively an important milestone, even if everything is not really cleared, but it allows some hope in the future of this technology. It is not sure that this step will accelerate the 3G license process or the market reorganization.
A proposal is circulating that China Mobile would get a TD-SCDMA license, a new China Telecom (formed with China Telecom and China Unicom/GSM) would acquire a WCMDA license, while a new China Unicom (formed with China Netcom and China Unicom/CDMA) would have a CDMA 2000 license.
Too many parameters are, however, currently unknown to speculate on how the Chinese government will decide the market reorganization. Wait and see!
