Broadband in Europe
Broadband penetration in the EU passed 18%, according to ECTA, with 84m (+30%) broadband lines in use at the end of March. DSL continues to dominate the market with more than 82%. To compare these figures, the USA are given a 19.6% penetration and Japan a 20% penetration rate. The biggest broadband countries in Europe in 1Q07 are in decreasing order: Germany with over 16m broadband lines (15.4m DSL); the UK with almost 14m broadband lines (10.8m DSL); France with almost 13.5m broadband customers (12.8m DSL).
