A few set of market information released this week:

  • According to XiTi Monitor, Firefox reached a 28% market share in Europe, while Internet Explorer is down below 67% market share, followed by Opera with 3.5% share.

  • According to Juniper Research, mobile user-generated content revenues would top $5.7bn in 2012, while 50% of the total revenue will be made up by social networking sites.

  • In-Stat forecasts that almost 41m femtocell units would be installed by 2011, serving some 101m femtocell end-users.

  • According to Gartner, the market of “Software as a service” (SaaS) would grow 21% in 2007 to $5.1bn, and reach $11.5bn by 2011. The SaaS market would mainly address (70% ) the e-learning and web conferencing markets, and mainly focus on the SMEs.

  • According to Infonetics Research, 80% of service provider say they plan to offer fixed-mobile convergence (FMC) services by April 2008.

  • OVUM-RHK has posted its 2Q07 NA revenue and capex study, saying 2Q07 wireline operator capex went 2% down (-7% in 1H07), while 2Q07 mobile capex increased by 4%. Related revenues were respectively flat and up 12%.

  • According to IDC, Nokia got a 51% market share in the EMEA mobile phone market, followed by Samsung with 17% and Sony Ericsson with 14%. Motorola is fourth with a weak 6% market share. 2Q07 shipments in the region amounted to 87m units, up 8%.

  • According to OVUM-RHK , the 2Q07 global market for service provider switching and routing equipment was worth $2.6bn, up 14%. IP/MPLS core sales rose 27% to $600m.

  • GSA (the Global mobile Suppliers Association) said there were 316 mobile network operators (+48%) in 149 countries that have committed to deploying EDGE. 257 networks in 123 countries have launched commercial services.

  • Total worldwide investment in WiMAX network deployment is expected to reach $5.2bn in 2008, according to MIC (Market Intelligence Centre).

  • According to India' s PGIMER, people who use mobile phones in excess of half an hour per day are at higher risk of developing hearing loss in the dominant ear (ear of use).

  • M:Metrics reports its measurement of mobile social networking, announcing that about 12m customers in NA (7.5m) and WE (4.5m) reported accessing a social networking site with their mobile device in the month of June.

  • ABI Research forecasts that the market value for mobile video telephony services including video messaging services would exceed $17bn by 2012.

  • According to CCID, mobile phone sales in China would reach over 151m units in 2007, up 27%.
