• According to in-Stat, portable connectivity applications are driving the global Wi-Fi chipset market. Dual-mode cellular/Wi-Fi handsets segment is expected to reach 20% of the total chipset market in 2009, from current 3%.

• ITU would approve WiMAX as an official radio interface, opening up the possibility that it could become an approved 4G technology and benefit from the upcoming IMT-2000 Extension Band spectrum allocations.

• NA fee-based home network support subscriptions would double this year, according to In-Stat.

• According to Juniper Research, the Chinese market for Wireless Value Added Services (W-VAS) will expand from $15bn in 2008 to $21bn in 2012 boosted by the launch of 3G Services.

• ALU predicts that gigabit passive optical network (GPON) is set for growth.

• Strategy Analytics forecasts that mobile advertising would reach $14bn by 2011.

• Forward Concepts estimates that Europe will be the fastest-growing market for WCDMA in 2007.

• France and Belgium are the only two West European countries yet to reach 100% mobile penetration.
