Telemar (Brazil) has decided to unify its fixed, mobile, internet and entertainment services under the Oi brand

The International Telecommunication Union has standardized the Home Phoneline Networking Alliance's HomePNA 3.1. HomePNA uses the telephone wires already in a wall for networking.

Orascom Telecom has made a bid for Brazil Telecom and perhaps for Telemar (also in Brazil).

Qtel (Qatar) is expected to buy a controling stake in Wataniya Telecom (Kuwait) for $3.7bn.
