World PC sales

Gartner and IDC have released their respective study of the world PC market. Figures do not differ strongly between the two researches. The market was worth ca 230m units sold in 2006, up about 9%. HP remains the market leader with about 17% market share, followed by Dell with a 16% market share (for Gartner both are tied at about 16%). In any case they are well ahead of the third Lenovo with 7%, Acer with 6% and Toshiba with 4%. In 4Q06, HP sales grew 24% while Dell sales declined about 9%. EMEA is the first regional market with about 33% market share (80m units; +11%) in 2006, while the US market grew only 1% (but down 3% in the quarter). In EMEA, HP is the leader with about 17% market share, followed by Dell with 11.5%, Acer (10%), Fujitsu-Siemens with 7% and Toshiba with 4%.
