Portugal's antitrust regulator (AdC) has approved SonaeCom bid on Portugal Telecom, with some restrictions, such as SonaeCom's disposal of either its cable or fixed-line unit and the introduction of a new operator and MVNOs in the mobile business.
Polish conglomerate Elektrim filed for bankruptcy. Elektrim was the owner of the disputed (between DT and Vivendi) 48% stake in mobile telephone operator Polska Telefonia Cyfrowa, or PTC.
Telmex (Mexico) plans to buy back shares in its Brazilian unit Embratel on Nov. 7. Telmex currently has a 72.3% stake in Embratel.
Vietnam plans to invest $6bn into developing telecom networks and building postal and telecom infrastructure between 2006 and 2010.
China is to loan $211m for the implementation of a digital telephone-exchange project in Bangladesh.
