China broadband
According to Ovum, China is set becoming the world's biggest broadband market with a growth rate of about 75%+ and current 45m broadband subscribers, to be 79m in 2007 and 139m by 2010. As of June 06, there were 32m DSL lines in China (71% market share), almost 12m (26% market share) of Ethernet-based LAN services and about 1m of cable modem and wireless accesses. China Telecom and China Netcom are the dominant providers of broadband access in China with a combined market share of 87%. But current regulatory barriers have prevented operators really competing against DSL providers, so China needs to restructure the telecom industry and needs to reform the regulatory policy for broadband and IPTV.
